A $150 deposit is required to book a session one week in advance of the scheduled date.
Please note the following before booking:
I work exclusively with the wet plate collodion process.
Preparing for the session does takes time, the process is not as energetic as todays fast paced thousands of images per minute. This process is slow and hand crafted one plate at a time.
The process can not be rushed. Allow around two hours for a typical sitting.
Natural, overcast or, shaded light is best for this process and is weather dependent. I have found that trying to alter Mother Nature is quite difficult and not recommended.

Archival Pigment Print From an Original Plate
The image that you chose originates from a hand-made wet-plate tintype, created using a nineteenth-century photographic process that produces a single, unrepeatable original.
Each print will be signed.
These prints rendered on museum-grade Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper using archival pigment inks, chosen for their longevity and tonal depth. While the original tintype exists as a singular object, these prints serve as a means of preserving and sharing the image beyond the plate itself.

This session is for anyone looking for a more intimate session. It gives us a chance to slow down and spend time getting creative. We will shoot several portraits during a 2-3 hour session and you will get to choose your 5 favorite shots to take home + we will provide digital copies of all photos. This package is for a maximum of 1 person. It is meant to be one on one and perfect for anyone looking to create art, heirlooms, professional branding, album artwork, etc.

Are you wanting a plate made of your vintage/ historical home?
Do you have a location in mind to have your session? A certain field, structure or place you want to include in your shot?
I can come to you with my equipment and portable dark room and make this happen.
Private at-home / event experience between you and your family, friends, guests, etc... The fee is borne by one party. This is perfect for family events, weddings, corporate parties etc. We generally max out at 6-8 plates per hour. I can come to your home, we can go to the mountains, a park, etc...

Salvage Tintypes

Salvage Tintypes are handcrafted from reclaimed American metal—old Texas license plates and tin signs—given new life through the 19th-century wet plate process. This is a nod to the first Tintypists who would have probably used any scrap metal they could get their hands on because iron, steel and aluminum could be cost prohibitive.
Each plate is pains takingly black japanned by hand, sensitized in silver, and developed on the spot to create a one-of-a-kind photograph. The original signage or license plate numbers will be visible on the back of the plate, with your image on the front. No two plates are alike; every photograph carries both the history of the metal and the story captured in light.

Shot in the Black Hand Alchemy studio in Kilgore Texas, we offer a unique and nostalgic experience of turning your digital photos into physical tintypes.
These are perfect for professional branding, social media, if you have a candid image, a cat,(who will obviously not cooperate in the process), a nervous dog (same as cat), or maybe you just want it to simply exist.
The process begins with you sending us the digital photo you wish to transform. Then I work to create an authentic silver plate, capturing the rich tones and subtle nuances that lend an ethereal quality to your photograph. There will be natural chemistry marks and characteristics on each tintype. This process is what gives each piece that ‘vintage’ look.
This is a truly unique way to bridge the gap between the past and the present, embracing the historical character of vintage photography and having a tangible piece of unique art.
We oftentimes forget that we won’t last forever, so why not stop time just for a second to remember yourself like this forever.
Each image takes about the same amount of time/materials to produce, therefore, the price is stationary between sizes.

Custom Tintype Digital Restoration

Restore Old Family Tin Types
Preserve the history without altering the original.
I create high-resolution digital scans of your tintype and carefully remove dust, scratches, and surface blemishes to restore its appearance as it may have looked when first made. This process is entirely digital — your physical plate remains untouched and unaltered.
Tintypes may be securely mailed to me or dropped off in person. Once the scanning and digital restoration work is complete, your original plate will be carefully packaged and returned to you.
You receive a professionally restored high-resolution digital file suitable for printing, archiving, or sharing, while your original tintype remains safely preserved in its authentic condition.
